Downtown Aurora Reveals 50+ Public Art Installations for Street Art Lovers

Downtown Aurora hosts over 50 public art installations, including murals, sculptures, and utility-box art, stretching from the Aurora Transportation Center to the Santori Public Library along the Fox River Trail.

Public Art Installations Along the Trail

These installations run along the Fox River Trail, connecting the Aurora Transportation Center with the Santori Public Library. The route provides a continuous path through downtown where visitors can view murals, sculptures, and utility-box art in sequence.

Commissioned Murals and Initiatives

Aurora Public Art commissioned 30 colorful murals in a recent arts initiative. The works feature themes such as Mexican folk art known as alebrijes, graffiti-style street art, and local heritage. The total cost came to just over $100,000, funded by city and private sources.

Sanctioned Street Art Gallery

The city created Aurora's first sanctioned street art gallery, a 15x30-foot Graffiti Wall at 914 Middle Ave. The wall features works by 17 street artists and was curated by Sam Cervantes.

Notable Murals and Artists

Max Sansing created the Blues mural at Mundy Park, honoring Leland Bluebird Recording Sessions artists. On Downer Place, seven local artists produced the Aurora In Bloom floral mural.

Monthly and Annual Events

Aurora hosts a spontaneous art walk on the first Friday of every month. The annual Alley Art Fest brings street artists and DJs together for live art installations, including at Public Parking Lot H.

These sites and events remain accessible through the same downtown corridors and venues already mapped by the installations. Visitors can follow the Fox River Trail route or check the listed addresses and lots on any given first Friday or during the annual fest.
