Aurora School Updates Focus on Student Support and Leadership
Initiatives in Districts 129 and 131 highlight behavioral health access, new principals and academic recognition for local families.
How we reported this

Family Counseling Services launched the ONE Aurora initiative to deliver school-based behavioral health services and mobile crisis intervention across West Aurora School District 129 and East Aurora School District 131, reaching over 350 students during the 2025-2026 school year.
Expanded Mental Health Access for Families
The ONE Aurora program places counselors directly inside schools in both districts, allowing students to receive support without leaving campus. Mobile crisis teams can respond when needed, reducing barriers that families in Aurora often face when seeking care. This approach matters for local residents because it connects children with services during the school day and keeps families informed through the same districts their children attend.
New Leadership Appointments in District 131
East Aurora School District 131 announced four new leadership appointments for the 2026-27 school year aimed at strengthening instruction and student outcomes. Melissa Yarbrough will begin as principal at East Aurora High School for the upcoming school year. These changes follow recent administrative shifts and are intended to maintain continuity for students and staff in the district.
Academic Recognition for Class of 2026
East Aurora High School’s Class of 2026 included 88 seniors who earned the Seal of Biliteracy, equal to 10 percent of graduates. Thirty-seven students from the same class were also named Illinois State Scholars for 2026-2027. These accomplishments reflect the language and academic preparation available to Aurora students and give families concrete measures of progress within District 131.
Fleet Improvements in District 129
West Aurora School District 129 has updated its transportation fleet so that electric buses now make up one-third of total vehicles. The change supports daily routes for students while reflecting investments in infrastructure that affect how families experience school transportation.
Residents can stay informed about these programs through district websites and Family Counseling Services updates. Families with students in either district may contact their school counseling offices to learn how the ONE Aurora services or new leadership teams connect to their child’s schedule for the coming year.
