Aurora School Programs Deliver Direct Support to Local Families
Initiatives in East Aurora School District 131 and West Aurora School District 129 focus on student mental health, academic needs and staffing to benefit the broader community.
How we reported this
ONE Aurora, a coordinated school-based behavioral health initiative, launched in partnership with West Aurora School District 129 and East Aurora School District 131 to provide embedded on-site counseling and mobile crisis intervention for students.
Behavioral Health Resources Reach Hundreds of Students
The program supports over 350 students during the 2025-2026 school year. Families in Aurora gain access to immediate counseling services located inside school buildings, which reduces the need for external appointments and helps keep students engaged in daily routines. Mobile crisis teams can respond on site when needed, offering a practical layer of support that extends to parents managing work and household responsibilities.
Teacher Recruitment Efforts Address Ongoing Shortages
East Aurora School District 131 has implemented new measures to recruit teachers and fill positions amid persistent statewide staffing shortages in Illinois. Stable staffing levels allow schools to maintain consistent classroom instruction and after-school support, which directly affects how reliably local children receive daily lessons and guidance.
Academic Achievements Highlight Student Progress
Eighty-eight graduating seniors from East Aurora High School earned the Seal of Biliteracy in 2026, representing 10 percent of the Class of 2026. Thirty-seven students were recognized as Illinois State Scholars for the 2026-2027 academic year. These outcomes reflect expanded language and academic opportunities that prepare graduates for college and local employment pathways.
Residents see the impact through stronger school communities where mental health services, teacher presence and recognized student accomplishments reinforce family stability and neighborhood connections. East Aurora School District 131 continues its recruitment work while ONE Aurora maintains its counseling services for the current school year.
