Aurora School Districts Roll Out Student Support Programs and Leadership Changes

Family Counseling Services launched the ONE Aurora initiative to deliver embedded school-based behavioral health and mobile crisis intervention services across West Aurora School District 129 and East Aurora School District 131, reaching more than 350 students during the 2025-2026 school year.

Expanded behavioral health access

The program places counselors directly inside participating schools and provides mobile crisis response for students facing immediate mental health concerns. Families in these districts now have a clearer pathway to in-school support rather than relying solely on external providers. The effort directly addresses day-to-day pressures on students and staff in two of Aurora’s largest districts.

Leadership transition at Fred Rodgers Magnet Academy

East Aurora School District 131 announced four leadership appointments for the 2026-27 school year. Anthony Holub begins as principal of Fred Rodgers Magnet Academy on July 1, 2026. The change is part of routine district planning that keeps operations stable for families whose children attend the magnet program.

Academic milestones for the Class of 2026

East Aurora High School recognized 88 seniors who earned the Seal of Biliteracy, representing 10 percent of graduates. An additional 37 students from the same class received designation as Illinois State Scholars for the 2026-27 academic year. These accomplishments reflect sustained language and academic work that benefits individual students and signals district-wide progress to parents and employers.

Recruitment steps amid staffing shortages

East Aurora School District 131 introduced new recruitment measures to counter ongoing statewide teacher and staff shortages that affect daily school operations. The steps focus on attracting and retaining personnel so that classrooms and support services remain consistent for Aurora families.

Title IX policy updates ahead

Several Aurora-area districts are revising Title IX policies to match a federal directive that removes certain protections for transgender students. Draft policies are scheduled for presentation at board meetings in October 2025. Parents and guardians can review the proposed language at those public sessions before any final adoption.
