Metrolinx is constructing a new rail bridge over Yonge Street in Aurora and laying second tracks to enable all-day, two-way 15-minute GO train service by approximately 2025. The Government of Ontario is upgrading Aurora GO Station with a new second platform, track, pedestrian tunnel with elevators, and additional parking to support future two-way, all-day service.
Rail Infrastructure Advancements
These rail projects focus on Aurora GO Station and the crossing at Yonge Street. The work includes track additions and station facilities that connect directly to planned transit-oriented developments featuring mixed-use residential, retail, and office spaces around Aurora's rail stations. Construction activity is already visible along the rail corridor, with the bridge project forming a key part of the overall effort.
Housing and Land Designations
Aurora lawmakers are designating 109 acres near the Fitzsimons campus and the 13th Avenue light-rail station as blighted to secure grants for over 900 housing and workforce units. This step targets land close to existing transit stops and aims to unlock funding for residential and employment space in those locations.
Supporting Infrastructure
Infrastructure improvements including a Dillon Way extension and a multimodal bridge over Tollgate Creek are planned to support development near the 13th Avenue RTD station. These additions address access and connectivity for the sites under consideration for new mixed-use projects. Transit-oriented developments featuring mixed-use residential, retail, and office spaces are being built or are under construction around Aurora's rail stations as these supporting works progress.
