Achieve Sports Center Sale Shifts Aurora Youth Programs After Three Years

Aurora’s Achieve Sports Center has closed after three years of operation, with the property sold last month to Red Rocks Church for $9 million.

The sale ends a venture that began when the owners expanded from a smaller gymnastics site to meet growing demand for youth sports space. Local families and seniors who used the courts and turf fields for lacrosse, soccer, golf and pickleball now face fewer options in the immediate area.

Financial Pressures and Market Shifts

Interest rates on the property loan climbed from 4 percent to 8 percent while the 2026 property tax bill reached $224,000, according to reporting in the Denver Post. A new city recreation center opened nearby at roughly the same time the sports complex launched, adding direct competition. Proposed state energy-efficiency rules would have required further major spending on the building.

The owners bought the site for $6.1 million in September 2021 and invested nearly $2 million to convert the former Safeway, adding eight rooftop HVAC units and a parent viewing gym above the gymnastics area. At peak the operation employed 120 people and earned the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Colorado businesspeople of the year honor. The couple had no outside investors and described the project as a “big, hairy, audacious goal.”

Return to Core Gymnastics Work

With no buyer willing to lease the building back to them, the owners are redirecting efforts to the original gymnastics center that opened in 2013. Youth programming will continue on a smaller scale, preserving the same approach to athlete development but without the multi-sport footprint.

Parents and clubs that relied on the larger venue for seasonal training can contact the gymnastics site directly to explore remaining options. Red Rocks Church has stated it is still reviewing long-term uses for the property and has no immediate plans announced.
