Aurora High Schools Capture Conference and State Titles Across Three Sports
Recent wins in volleyball, cross country and tennis reflect strong local programs across multiple districts.
How we reported this

Oswego High School’s girls volleyball team secured its first conference championship and followed that with a regional title. At Oswego East High School, swimmer Katie Malm earned sectional honors and advanced to the state finals. These results arrived in the same bulletin period that covered other Aurora-area schools.
Cross Country Standouts Lead Local Gains
Aurora Central Catholic sent runners Cecilia Hilby and Ben Bohr to the IHSA state finals on November 9, where they placed 20th and 23rd. The girls team finished 17th overall while the boys placed sixth. East Aurora High School’s girls varsity squad claimed its second straight conference championship, a feat matched only once before in school history, with three all-conference runners and one honorable mention. Kaneland High School’s Class 2A boys team took fifth at the state meet. Batavia High School girls placed fifth at state competition as well.
Further east, Waubonsee Community College runner David Valknaov finished ninth at the NJCAA Division II national meet with a time of 25:45, the best mark ever posted by a Chiefs athlete, earning second-team All-American status. Rosary High School swimmers set two conference records during their Metro Conference victory, including Elizabeth Nawrocki in the 200 IM.
Tennis and Volleyball Milestones Add to the Record
Illinois Math and Science Academy captured its first sectional tennis title. Srimedha Veerathu won the singles crown, and the doubles team of Josie Kim and Jiya Vyas also took first. Three additional IMSA athletes received Little 10 all-conference nods in soccer and volleyball. Aurora Christian’s girls volleyball squad reached the regional final on October 31.
The City of Aurora’s November athletics bulletin compiled these outcomes from districts serving the city and surrounding communities. The listed results show concrete benchmarks that current and future participants can measure against when entering local high school programs.
Students interested in trying out can contact their school’s athletic office for season schedules and eligibility requirements. The next set of conference and sectional events will open registration windows in the coming months.
